PetrSU is holding the International Academic Workshop "Breakthrough nanotechnology for high-tech industries of the European North"

Its participants included students, staff and faculty, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Republic of Karelia, the center of development and production of microelectronic products “GS Nanotech” (Gusev, Kaliningrad region), Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm, Sweden), as well as industries of Russia and others.

Welcoming speeches were made by the president of PetrSU V. Vasilev and Minister of Economic Development of the Republic of Karelia V. Chmil. In particular, he said: "Today we have gathered people who do real science, who find a way to apply it in practice and realize that nanotechnology is going to make future happen. I really hope that, prospectively, the developments being considered now will not only be studied theoretically, but will be used in practical activities of enterprises and the economy of Karelia and Russia." The purpose of the seminar is to present research by scientists of PetrSU in nanotechnology, as well as to find new points of contact between PetrSU and industry.

Researchers of the University not only presented the results of their scientific developments, but also got acquainted with the experience of their colleagues. Professor at Kirensky Institute of Physics, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Krasnoyarsk), S. Ovchinnikov spoke about the development of condensed matter physics and nanotechnology.

The report "Metamaterials: New Opportunities for nanoelectronics and nanophotonics" was introduced to the participants by the professor of the Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden) A. Grishin. "Relations with Petrozavodsk State University have been established for a long time. Our interaction has been becoming more specific, we started looking for industrial partners, and the idea of creating a nanocenter. The idea was supported by the Rector of the University Anatoliy Voronin. There have been numerous contacts, with specialists visiting Petrozavodsk State University. Now we see great prospects. The partnership launched in Petrozavodsk can assume more efficient organizational forms for creating a nano-center and attracting new colleagues, " he said before his presentation.

The event takes place in the framework of the "Classic university in the transborder area in the North: the strategy of innovative development."

The section will continue on 12 December.
