The assembly hall of PetrSU hosted official ceremony of awarding the winners and prize-winners of the international competition for the Head of the Republic of Karelia Cup in Programming among students.

The assembly hall of PetrSU hosted official ceremony of awarding the winners and prize-winners of the international competition for the Head of the Republic of Karelia Cup in Programming among students.

During ten days students from 25 universities of nine countries (Russia, Belorussia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Romania, Sweden, and the USA) have been competing for prizes and the right to participate in the World Championship.

The Head of the Republic of Karelia Aleksandr Khudilainen came to congratulate the participants: “I’m glad that such events are becoming even more global, the judges broaden their capabilities, as this year the contest is judged by the current world champions. Petrozavodsk is becoming a center of attraction for young programmers, who get start in life here.”

PetrSU Rector, Anatoly Voronin, also noted the importance of such training camps for future professionals:

“The best programmers of the world, I mean 50-70% of prize-winners of various international competitions, have participated in the training camp at Petrozavodsk State University. Of 180 medal events of the Programming World Championships 79 have been won by the participants of PetrSU programming camps. For 10 years in a row this rate has significantly increased.”

The participants of the ceremony honored the Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Vladimir Kuznetsov for many years of training specialists in programming in the Republic of Karelia. He is the founder and the moving spirit of the programming camps. September 1 marked the 40-year anniversary of Professor Kuznetsov’s work at the University.

The winners of the competition are:

The 1st place: the team of Moscow State University

The 2nd place: the team of Saint Petersburg State University

The 3rd place: the team of Moscow State University

The 4th place: the team of Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology

The 5th place: the team of Perm State University

The 6th place: the team of the University of Helsinki

The 7th place: the team of Royal Institute of Technology

“Without doubt, these camps are one of the key elements to training for the World Championship. All the strongest teams, which compete for the highest places, have taken part in them. We have been here before. We always note the good organization. Here the organizers do their best so the participants feel themselves at home. Great work is done by the administration of the University and the camp organizers, especially Roman Soshkin,” said Maksim Akhmedov, member of Moscow SU team.

Special prizes were awarded to the “veterans” of the camps Igor Pyshkin, Ivan Smirnov and Aleksandr Ostanin. The young men have come to Petrozavodsk to take part in the competition for the ninth time. And this is not the limit, as they promised to come again.
