On June 9, Petrozavodsk University welcomed the delegation from the city of Oulu (Finland).

The delegation form Oulu was greeted by the Rector of PetrSU Anatoly Voronin, the Vice-Rector for Scientific Research Vladimir Siunev, the Head of the Department of Innovation and Production Olga Derbeneva, the Vice-Rector for International Affairs Marina Gvozdeva, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Konstantin Tarasov, and other representatives of PetrSU.

The Finnish delegation included the Director General of the Regional State Administrative Agency for Northern Finland Terttu Savolainen, the Senior Councilor of the Agency Tapio Saavalainen, and the Rector of the University of Oulu Jouko Niinimäki.

The Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Jouko Niinimäki commenced his work as the Rector of the University of Oulu at the beginning of January, 2015. This is his first visit to Petrozavodsk, which he started at Petrozavodsk University.

The guests were introduced to the Innovation and Technology Park of PetrSU. During the tour around the Park, the members of the delegation learned about the innovative enterprises and laboratories. At the Laboratory of Mobile and Wireless Technologies the guests were introduced to the tools for locating miners underground, at the PetrSU-Metso Automation Systems Center they were shown the services, while at the PONSSE International Center the guests were presented the innovations in the field of forestry equipment.

At the Institute of High Biomedical Technologies of PetrSU Finnish delegates met Professor Aleksandr Poltorak, the Head of the Laboratory of Molecular Genetics of Innate Immunity, Professor Aleksandr Meigal, the Head of the Laboratory of New Methods for Physiological Studies, and the Director of the Institute of Medicine Aleksandr Balashov.

At the Institute of High Biomedical Technologies the guests were told about the principal areas of research, shown the cutting-edge equipment of the Laboratory of Telemedicine, training systems and simulators at which the students undergo preliminary training and the healthcare specialists upgrade their skills.

The guests were particularly interested in visiting the Museum of Science of PetrSU, and the Resource Research and Technology Educational Center.

By the end of the visit the parties signed the Memorandum of Understanding. The document was undersigned by the Rector of PetrSU Anatoly Voronin and the Rector of the University of Oulu Jouko Niinimäki.

“We know that the University of Oulu is an expert in the field of Northern European issues, and focuses on strengthening its work as an international research university. Many our institutes and departments have long been cooperating with it in the framework of joint projects. And we are glad to continue our partnership with this university. It is essential now, as Petrozavodsk University has received the status of the Flagship University”, said the Rector of PetrSU Anatoly Voronin.

“This is my first visit to Petrozavodsk University and I am impressed with the scale of its activities. Today we signed the Memorandum of Understanding in the framework of which we plan to develop our further cooperation in the field of information technologies, medical research and innovations”, summed up his first visit the Rector of the University of Oulu Jouko Niinimäki.
