Cooperation of PetrSU and Joensuu Regional Development Company JOSEK
Valery Shlyamin, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Adviser to the Rector, Academic Director of the Institute of North European Studies, took part in the preparation and conduct of the Russian-Finnish business meeting on cross-border economic cooperation. The meeting was held within the framework of the cooperation agreement between PetrSU and Joensuu Regional Development Company JOSEK (Finland) of June 7, 2018.
The business meeting was held in Joensuu on the 1st of November 2018.
It was attended by more than 50 people - representatives of medium and small business, business associations of the Republic of Karelia and Eastern Finland, representatives of the customs services of Russia and Finland, the Embassy and the Trade Representation of Russia to Finland. Valery Shlyamin made a report “Prerequisites and restrictions for the creation of a Special Economic Zone in the village of Värtsilä”, in which he analyzed possible approaches to determining the type of the SEZ and its specialization, made a proposal to create a Karelian-Finnish project group to prepare the SEZ. The offer was accepted.
Among the speakers of the business meeting were Antti Hartikainen, the Director General of the Finnish Customs, Pavel Burenkov, Minister of Economic Development and Industry of the Republic of Karelia, and other officials.
