Minister of Health and social development of RF V.I. Skvortsova, member of state Commission on preparation for celebrating 100th anniversary of the Republic of Karelia visited IT-Park

Rector of PetrSU A.V. Voronin presented to the Minister of Health and social development of RF V.I. Skvortsova the project for formation of cluster «Biomedicine» infrastructure of innovation and technology PetrSU’s campus.

V.I. Skvortsova acquainted herself with innovative developments of Petrozavodsk State University in the sphere of health and social development. She saw how the virtual training simulator of eye surgeon, intended for practicing skills of entrants, operating eye diseases works. The virtual trainer will let simulate different types of eye diseases, model unpredictable situations. She also saw howmthe software package of diagnostics of cardiac arrhythmias- CardiaCare- works.

In the laboratory of new physiological research methods (head- professor A.Y. Meigal) developments in the sphere of diagnostics and rehabilitation of nervous system were presented. Today, one of the most successful projects of laboratory is development of new biosignal analysis’ system methods, especially electromyogram (EMG). By means of MatLab program nonlinear parameters are calculated in the laboratory, and it helped to improve the diagnostics of Parkinson disease. Transference of this technology to other socially important diseases is planned. This work is carried out within the frameworks of consortium NeuroEMG, which includes university of East Finland, universities of Beijing and Chshetszyan, Harvard medical school and Petrozavodsk state University. Soon, institute of higher nervous activity and neurophysiology of RAS (Moscow) will join this work, in particular on basis of professor Meigal’s laboratory.

The second direction, which was also presented to the Minister, is rehabilitation of neurologic patients on basis of modern space developments. Participation in the project «Mars500» let be one of the institutes, with which Centre of aeroastromedicine of the institute of medical and biological problems of RAS (Moscow). Joint researches in new building of the institute of HBMT with the help of artificial zero-gravity and gravity are already planned. Vestibulology is being developed in the laboratory; as well there are videonystagmograph and force plate, which will also me in high demand for development of diagnostics and rehabilitation of nervous diseases.

The third direction, which is also impossible without cooperation, is creation of models of processes, which take place in human's organism, creation of interfaces "nerve-nanofiber", bioengineering.

As well the Minister of Health and social development was provided with prospect of PetrSU's unified multifunctional centre of modular education of the Institute of High-tech biomedical. This modern educational training equipment (simulators and mannequins), obtained in 2012/2013 on program of strategic development, let work through practical medical skills of first-aid, obstetric-gynecologic help, cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

«I’ve seen that there are wonderful developments on personalized monitoring of health. That's possibility of distance notation and transfer of electrocardiogram and rendering therapeutic aid to patients. It is very important. There are unique manipulators, which are important for training not only interns' and registrars', but also doctors' skills.
There are some unique developments, which should help the whole country. New rehabilitative approaches for orthopaedic and neurologic patients. I would like to congratulate the university on such rapid development in the sphere of biomedicine», - said Veronika Skvortsova, summing up the meeting.
