Students of the program Water Bioresources and Aquaculture, teachers of the Department of Zootechnics, Fishery, Agronomy, and Land Management, and employees of the Institute of Biology, Ecology and Agricultural Technologies of PetrSU took part in the seminar Advanced Technologies in Aquaculture and Fish Health Protection.

Representatives of the Norwegian Skretting Aquaculture Research Center (ARC), the world leader in fish feed production, have presented their reports on the research in aquaculture, new trends in fish farming and feed production in Europe, primary diseases of rainbow trout grown at fish farms.

The participants of the seminar studied principal methods of diagnosis and prevention of fish diseases, vaccination, as well as feeding, keeping and treating fish farmed in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS).

Alejandro Obach, one of the world-leading scientists working in the area of aquaculture, Director of the Skretting Aquaculture Research Center (ARC), was among the reporters.

“This is my first report presentation in both Petrozavodsk and Russia. I have extensive experience in delivering lectures in other countries, for several years I have taught at the University of Barcelona. I enjoy working with students as they are our future. Our role is to interest them and show that aquaculture is a promising area, even though in many countries aquaculture is still considered something exotic while they focus on animal husbandry. Thanks to our Russian branch that cooperates with Karelian fish farms we know that the majority of fish farm managers and workers have studied at Petrozavodsk State University. We have held this seminar and hope that it will lay the foundation for closer cooperation between our organizations”, said Alejandro Obach.
