GreenMDC and Data Processing Centres of Karelia have Signed a Partnership Agreement

Until 2025, the Republic of Karelia will complete a strategically important project for this northern region on establishing a network of data centers. GreenMDC company, a manufacturer of modular data centers in St. Petersburg, intends to join the project.

Until 2025, under the investment project of the spin-off company of Petrozavodsk State University DPCs of Karelia LLC, it is planned to establish a distributed network of data centers in Karelia, which is preliminary estimated to take from 10% to 15% of the Russian cloud services market. In this regard, the agreement between the DPCs of Karelia and the manufacturer of modular data centers GreenMDC was concluded at the end of 2020, affirming the parties’ intention to jointly implement projects based on GreenMDC technological solutions.

Alexey Shtykov, General Director of DPCs of Karelia LLC:

"The proposed project is aimed at establishing a flagship network of world-class Arctic data processing centers (DPC) in the Republic of Karelia, with the benefit of speed of data processing, their site density, energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness of operational solutions due to specifics of the geographical position and optimal climate.

The Republic of Karelia was chosen as a region that fully meets the required parameters: temperature, humidity, seismic resistance, a high degree of information security. The availability of cheap and environmentally friendly sources of energy and high capacity communication links makes it possible to implement large-scale projects. The advantages of Karelia makes it possible to implement a data centers project with savings of up to 20% and further operate the infrastructure with savings of up to 30% compared to the implementation of similar projects in other regions of the Russian Federation.

In addition to high demand and attractive economic parameters, the project is objectively aimed at developing the digital independence of a country, stimulating the development of advanced domestic technologies for storing and transmitting data, the emergence of new residents of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, making the EU operating business environment simpler for residents of the Russian Federation who run businesses, including the development of trade and economic relations with Finland".
